Sasuke’s own fire jutsu is consumed by the living black flames of Amaterasu, burning everything Itachi’s eye sets upon. Sasuke frantically tries to escape, but is caught in the end by the black fire. The flames die down and Itachi goes in to inspect the dead corpse lying in front of him, only to find a discarded skin.

Sasuke’s body replacement technique, copied from his former sensei Orochi, allows him to escape. Releasing his cursed seal, Sasuke creates another fireball that misses Itachi and goes straight for the skies. At that moment, the clouds thundered and a massive storm gathers above as Sasuke calls upon his most powerful jutsu, Kirin!

Travelling at near speeds of light, a bolt of lightning strikes the very ground Itachi stands guided by Sasuke’s hand. As the dust settles, Sasuke cries jubilantly at the sight of a fallen Itachi, but matters soon take an oh-so-repeated twist when Itachi rises up, seemingly having avoided certain death with the help of a ribcage-like weapon called Susano!

Karin becomes aware of incoming trouble and Team Hebi decides to avoid a premature encounter. Karin’s ability to detect chakra emanations from large distances is now proven, but nothing much else is known about her.

Thanks to his master, Sasuke seems to have inherited incredible regenerative powers. They decide to make haste in their search for Itachi after Karin sets up a decoy to send the Leaf hounds and Kiba off their trail.

Unable to determine Team Hebi’s real scent, Naruto creates a ton of Kage Bunshin to seek them out. But either pure luck or misfortune, Naruto stumbles upon Itachi himself! Is it really Naruto, or his clone? And why is Itachi apparently alone…?

Being a duo armed with earth-shattering jutsus, they sure are pretty afraid of getting wet. Especially when you think about Kisame being capable of manipulating the water element. Ahh, but back to the point of the story thus far.

Itachi is confident that he isn’t the last of the Uchiha clan. Does he mean Sasuke, or is he really hinting about another? It begs questions that link to the end of this chapter. Meanwhile, in a room somewhere, Sasuke recuperates from his injuries not knowing that Konoha’s shinobi have gathered around the blast site to determine his whereabouts.
And finally, at the village where Pein and the unnamed kunoichi is talking with a mysterious figure, a surprising revelation! The bumbling idiot who had been slaving under Deidara’s thumb; Tobi is actually the mystery person! What the heck?! The shock doesn’t end there, however, when lightning strikes at the background to reveal an eye that looks through the singular spiral hole in the mask. An eye of a Sharingan user!

And here comes a bit of speculation. The only person who I can think of that is a Sharingan user, might have a grudge for being left dead in the battlefield and has only one Sharingan eye left, is Kakashi’s former friend… Obito.

This has got to be the most ‘revealing’ chapter of all, with the identity of the leader now exposed. But first things first, a summary of this chapter is in order. The massive explosion by Deidara seems to have signaled a change, of sorts. Catching everyone’s attention, Naruto’s team decides to investigate.

Sasuke’s companions are even quicker to react and surprisingly, Karin is able to home in on his chakra from such a huge distance, but fails to detect even a slight trace. Even Akatsuki’s top scout, Zetsu is on site to survey the carnage wrought by Deidara. He reports back to the team about the event that has transpired, but even the news of Sasuke’s supposed death did not faze the emotionless Itachi.

Meanwhile, Suigetsu goes into action to summon out Manda, pouring a bottle containing Sasuke’s blood to evoke the summoning contract. And out comes Sasuke, injured all over but with all his limbs intact. Apparently, he used Manda as a means of escape through the dimension where these huge beasts would retreat once the summoning jutsu expires.

It doesn’t stop here however, as the next few pages concentrates on the Akatsuki leader, whose name is either Paine, or Pein or some such. And from the headband, he comes from the Hidden Village of Rain. AND it seems that he is under orders from someone. And that order; to hunt down Naruto himself.

Thwarted at every turn, Deidara is being pushed to a corner. And we all know what bad guys will do when faced with such situation. Even when all of Deidara’s strength has been sapped from the prolonged fight, Sasuke remains composed; his objective to extract the information about his brother’s whereabouts.

That when, I think right about page 7 to 8, when the proverbial string snaps. Deidara reveals his stitched chest, which is really a huge gaping mouth with a slobbering tongue. He takes a load of explosive clay and feeds it. Cracks begin to form all over his body, lines that begin to multiply and eventually gather around the area where the mouth on his chest was.

And with his final signature phrase, he explodes into a weirdly shaped blast, taking everything else with him in a blazing glory 10 kilometers wide. Will Sasuke be fast enough to use his ‘last resort’ move?

Sasuke has no answer to Deidara’s deadlock, and gets engulfed in Deidara’s C4 creation. Breathing in the tiny bombs, Sasuke faces a very unsettling outcome.Deidara distances himself from the C4 and seems to be running out of chakra himself, even for a tiny bomb. That’s when Sasuke escapes with the help of Chidori, but isn’t enough to stop Deidara from detonating his C4.

Contented with seeing the burnt ashes of snake skin, Deidara lets his guard down and in turn, gets a heavy wallop at the face. Sasuke, his body still suffering from the effects of his own Chidori, was able to neutralise the C4 within his body with a self-inflicted shock treatment.

Thwarted by those eyes again, both Deidara and Sasuke are on the verge of collapse; anything seems possible at this moment!
